WCFE Graduation 2017

Waterford College of Further Education held it's Graduation ceremony for 2017 recently in the WIT arena. Hundreds of students graduated from over 30 full- time day courses on a night that is the pinnacle of the WCFE event calendar.

The event was a collaboration of bright optimism and positivity. An impressive top table asserted that Waterford was a force to be reckoned with on the economic stage, and that WCFE graduates would be major players in the growing economy.

The Graduation follows the recent, highly publicised launch of the WCFE Strategic Plan for 2020, which sets out impressive plans for expansion across six areas including course provision and accommodation. The Plan was very much present in the speeches made by guests, as was the importance of a positive attitude and the need to grasp the opportunities that are on the way.

WCFE Strategic Plan Launch

WCFE Strategic Plan Launch for 2020

Waterford College of Further Education recently launched its impressive 3 year Strategic Plan at the Tower Hotel. The Plan outlines the College’s vision for its future in the South East as the largest provider of Further Education in the region.

The Plan specifies expansion in a number of key areas; courses offered, campus and infrastructure, curriculum delivery, (including e-learning), student support, positive work environment and engagement with key stakeholders in the South East region. These six goals will form the basis for the development and expansion of WCFE between now and 2020.

The Plan is the culmination of a year of consultation with students, staff and WCFE’s many stakeholders across the South East. It also reflects the goals and objectives of the national Further Education and Training Strategy (SOLAS 2014) and is aligned with the strategic vision of WWETB.

Media Level 6 Student on RTE

Audio/ Visual Level 6 Student Centre Stage on Late Late Show

I started filming Schizophrenia: The Voices in my Head with a production company called Frontline Films in early 2017, a documentary for RTE2 which tracked the daily lives, struggles and triumphs of some young Irish people living with schizophrenia. There were six of us in the documentary which gave an insight into the challenges that come with psychosis while also showing us as individuals each with a story of our own.

The crew wanted to do the subject real justice without dramatizing schizophrenia. They wanted to make something that broke down the stigma and misconceptions. I can’t put into words what it meant to watch the final cut of the documentary and finally see a programme that showed schizophrenia for what it is really is.
