GRADUATION CELEBRATIONS AT WCFE
Waterford College of Further Education held its annual Graduation Ceremony at the Tower Hotel recently. The glittering ceremony, held over two evenings, is the pinnacle of the College's calender, celebrating the achievements both academic and personal of the College's students. With over 400 people in attendance on each evening, including distinguished guests such as the Lord Mayor of Waterford. Cllr. Jim D'arcy, the event marked the success of students in a range of disciplines and fields of study.
In his address to the graduates and their families, Acting Principal of WCFE, Michael Normoyle said, 'Education is mainly about confidence, the confidence to take on new challenges, the strength and determination to progress in your studies or in your search for employment'. He went on to emphasis the enduring importance of an education in a challenging global economic climate, a sentiment that was echoed by other speakers. In his address, the Lord Mayor Cllr, Jim Darcy referred to the importance of education in a historical and social context and the value of education to the individual.
The WCFE graduation ceremony is a celebration of success. For over 100 years, Waterford College of Further Education has been a centre of educational excellence in the South East region and is of particular importance to the city itself. With in excess of 2200 day and night time students, the College is committed to the skills and personal development and of its learners. Nationally recognised for the quality of its educational provision, WCFE will continue to provide valuable opportunities for career and skills development. The current 'Co-operation Agreement' in place with Waterford Institute of Technology enables students who satisfy the criteria for progresson onto W.I.T courses to be given an offer through the C.A.O. in advance of first round offers. Furthermore, those learners who successfully complete a Level 6 programme in WCFE will be considered for progression onto year two of similiar W.I.T. programmes.
